Ivalou Jeanette Padgett Denty

Ivalou Jeanetta Padgett Denty, 79, passed away on June 30, 2016 in Marietta, Georgia.  She was born in Flat Rock, Conecuh County, Alabama on July 2, 1936, and predeceased by her parents, Willie Thermon Padgett and Nannie Jewell Hoomes.  She graduated from Lanier High School and studied at UAM.  She worked for Housing and Urban Development, HUD, in Montgomery and Birmingham, retiring to Evergreen in 1991.

 IV was the much loved sister and aunt of a large number of relatives, and had many friends in the church and community.  She was an avid reader of all types of fiction, historical novels, and religious works, especially those of C. S. Lewis.  She filet crocheted many tapestries, tablecloths, bedspreads, and wall hangings.  There is hardly a member of the community who doesn’t have a piece of her work.  She loved cats and dogs, giving homes to many.  She was a fully trained firefighter with the Flat Rock Volunteer Fire Department.  For Flat Rock Day, their fundraiser, she was active in all aspects of the event.  She especially excelled in selling raffle tickets for handcrafted quilts.  She served as secretary for the Flat Rock department and for the county organization. She was a poll worker for many years.  She and several of her friends made it a point to visit and help families in the community.  She was a serious Bible student and a faithful member of the Stanley Avenue Church of Christ.

 She is survived by brothers, James C. and William T. Padgett, sister-in-law, Sandra Padgett, 7 nieces, 4 nephews, 10 great-nieces, 12 great-nephews, 5 great-great nieces and 6 great-great nephews.  She was predeceased by brothers Herbert Wayne, O B, W. T., and Jimmy Cecil Padgett.

Her Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Flat Rock Chapel, 5360 County Road 26, Evergreen, Conecuh, Alabama 36401.  Viewing will be at 9:30am for family and 10am for everyone.  The service will be at 11am, followed by burial and a reception for the family.
