Mr. Willie Calvin Garrett, of Castleberry, Alabama passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021. He was 95.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Cope-Keahey one hour prior to the services. Rev. Bryan Garrett and Rev. Jim Blair will officiate. Interment will follow in the London Baptist Church cemetery in Castleberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Marcus Laster, Colby Matthews, Trey Matthews, Keith Brown, Paul Powell and Bryan Garrett. Cope-Keahey Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
Willie C. Garrett was born in Garland, Alabama to James H. Garrett and Annie Bell Calloway Garrett on March 30, 1926. Drafted at the age of16, he served 23 years in the United States Army and served during WWII and Korean Conflict with tours in China and Iran.  He was a Sargent First Class in the 7th Infantry, a certified sharp shooter and received a Bronze Star for his service. During his working career, he was a valuable employee to Flexibal in Evergreen, Arvin's in Monroeville and lastly retired as a Correctional Officer with the State of Alabama, working mainly at the work release center in Atmore, Alabama.  For more than 35 years, he was an active member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Brewton and taught the Sr. Adult Sunday School Class for 32 years. One of his trademarks was that he always sent family and friends Christmas and birthday cards. 
Left to cherish his memory, sons, Ron Bryan (Gray) of Wilmington, North Carolina and Donnie Bryan of Morrisville, Pennsylvania; daughter, Tammy Stanford (Hank) of Castleberry, Alabama; brothers, Clyde Garrett (Kathy) of Irvington, Alabama; sister-in-law, Georgia Lee Garrett of Georgiana, Alabama; grandchildren, Nicole Bryan Healey (Tim), Crissy Brown (Keith), Patrick T. Bryan, Kerrie Powell (Paul), Bryan Garrett, Marcus Laster (Amy), Brooks Hutto, Colby Matthews (Destiny), Trey Matthews (Tiffany), 16 great grandchildren, Matthew Healey, Elizabeth Healey, Andrew Healey, Halee Brown, Thomas Brown, Jared Brown, Morgan Powell, Alexia May Laster, Dalton Hutto, Jayden Matthews, Brayden Matthews, Kynsee Matthews, Bentley Matthews, Michael Matthews, Rylee Dakota Matthews, Grant Matthews; great great grandchildren, Carsyn Powell and Camille Brown; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 27 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Garner Garrett, daughter, Shirley May Matthews, brothers, George Garrett, James Garrett (Lois Merril), Leotis Garrett (Jane), and Brooks Garrett; sisters, Betty Clark (Kent) and Louise Cook (Joe).
