Mr. William Troy Smith of Greenville, formerly of Evergreen passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at his daughter’s residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2020, at Olive Branch Baptist Church in Owassa Community. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services. Rev. Herbert Brown will officiate. The music will be by Morgan Grissett. Burial will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery with Cope-Keahey Funeral Home directing.
Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Driver, Patrick Taylor, Josh Thrower, Mason Sabino, Damon Godwin, and Jerome Lail.
Left to cherish his memory, son, William Michael Smith (Brenda) of Dothan, AL; daughters, Donna Thrower (Mike) of Greenville, AL; Susan Denise Taylor (David Ball) of Evergreen, AL; Lisa Lunsford (Jerome Lail) of Brewton, AL; Janice Kelley of Dothan; grandchildren, Jessica Driver, Cayla Bennett, Josh Thrower, Patrick Taylor, Zachery Taylor, Andrea Godwin, Damon Godwin, and Anna Smith; great-grandchildren, Sara Riley, Bennett Belle, Meri Michael, Bryant, Paislee Kayte, Murphy, and McKinley.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Susan Frances Smith in 2002; a grandchild, Jennifer Bennett, and a great-grandchild, Brianna Sabino.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Smith served during the Korean War. A self-proclaimed “workaholic and entrepreneur”, he owned Smith Ambulance Service for over 30 years, had mini-storages and other business endeavors through the years.
He was a lifelong resident of Evergreen until his health declined and he moved to the Pine Needle Assisted Living in Greenville, where he enjoyed visiting with the other residents and loved playing Bingo.
