Walter Lee Carrier, age 87, of Evergreen, Alabama passed away peacefully with loving family by his side on June 8, 2025.

Walter was born on October 21, 1937 in Evergreen, Alabama to Clarence Edward Carrier Sr. and Nealie Snead Carrier. He graduated from Evergreen High School, Class of 1957, and later attended Holmes Community College in Mississippi. In 1960, Walter wed Freda Griggers Carrier in Evergreen, Alabama where they built an extraordinary life together while raising five children. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Walter lived his life with intention. He honorably served in the Army National Guard for 4 years, worked at Max Khan Curtain Corporation for 37 years and spent many years as a deacon at Evergreen Baptist Church all while dedicating himself to his family, faith and numerous passions. With God-given patience, focus and a quiet competitive spirit, he mastered any trade or skill he attempted and frequently used those in service of others. Walter was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and freshwater fish, though there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending precious time with his family. Whether he was attending family gatherings, cheering from the sidelines or offering wisdom while casting a line, he was a constant source of love and support.
 

Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Freda Carrier; his children, Melinda Carrier Nettles (Paul), Trent Carrier, Ed Carrier (Debbie), Leah Carrier Deal (Boyd) and Jeff Carrier (Auburn); his brother, Wayne Carrier (Janaine); 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Nealie Carrier; his brother, Clarence Carrier Jr.; and his sisters, Edith Carrier Hayes, Willa Carrier Driver and Betty Carrier Booker.

His service will be officiated by Pastor Herbert Brown on Wednesday, June 11 at 2:00 pm at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home in Evergreen,Alabama with the family receiving visitors one hour prior to the service . In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Walter's memory to Second Chance Ministries (PO Box 533, Ariton, AL 36311) and the Jackson Conway Foundation (100 Conway Lane, Evergreen, AL 36401), as he held both of these causes close to his heart.
