Thomas David Hartley, 77 passed away on July 15, 2025 at home surrounded by family.
Thomas, known as Tommy, was born to T.G. & Mamie Hartley on May 18, 1948 in Mobile, Alabama. He was raised in Evergreen and graduated from Evergreen High School in 1966. He played football and was a friend to many and could be found cutting up at any given time. Tommy attended Jefferson Davis Community College and later joined the United States Air Force. He served in Vietnam and worked on aircrafts while stationed in Arizona & Georgia. Tommy returned to his hometown of Evergreen, spending many years working for Poole Trunklines followed by a career in land maintenance. Tommy spent many years at his beloved family property in Owassa, Dry Acres Farm.
Tommy was adored by his devoted wife of 24 years, Martha (Young); his children Thomas Matthew (Patricia) of Flomaton, Sally Hartley Williams (Dan) of Birmingham. His loving stepchildren Lynn Bush (Tony) of McKenzie, Ronald Waters (Mollie) of Greenville and Jay Waters (Leanne) of McKenzie.
Known as “Pop” or “Pop Tommy” to the grandchildren: Gene Hartley (Raven), Elizabeth Hartley, Clara, Walker & Hayes Williams, Corey Bush (Hayden), Olivia Sasser (Jeremy), Katelin McClain (Maddox), Reagan Smith and Jay T Waters. Great-grandchildren, Jackson & Britton Bush, Lillian & Liam Sasser and Evie McClain.
Tommy is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Lang of Mobile and nephews.
Preceding him in peace were his parents, T.G. and Mamie Hartley of Evergreen and brother-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Lang of Mobile.
Tommy was lovingly cared for by the nurses and staff of Southern Hospice, Jessica, Heather, Christina, Yolanda - were such a gift along with family friend and caregiver, Sheryl Carter of Evergreen.
A memorial service will be held on July 18th at Cope-Keahey Funeral home Chapel in Evergreen, Alabama. The receiving of friends & family will be held from 11:00-12:00pm with the service starting at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill in McKenzie. A gathering will be held at The Shack in Evergreen from 4:00 - 6:00 pm as a final farewell to laugh and share in the stories and antics Tommy was known for.
