Delmas “Bud” (Jr.) Brooks Obituary

Delmas “Bud” Brooks Jr.

March 29, 1956 – June 20, 2025

Delmas “Bud” Brooks Jr., 69, passed away peacefully on the evening of June 20, 2025, at 11:07 p.m., surrounded by family. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Bud went home to be with the Lord after a life lived fully, fearlessly, and with a spirit as wild and free as the woods he loved to wander.

Bud was among the first babies born in the hospital in Evergreen, Alabama. He was the son of the late Delmas Elwood Brooks Sr. and Minnie Lee Parker Brooks.

He spent his life doing what brought him joy: tending his yard and garden, fishing, and especially chasing turkeys. Bud lived by his own compass, and anyone who spent time with him came away smiling—or laughing—along with a lesson about growing tomatoes or a lively recap of his latest turkey hunt.

A graveside service to celebrate Bud’s life will be held 12:00 pm., on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Olive Branch Cemetery in Owassa, Alabama, where family and friends gathered to share memories and honor his life. Cope-Keahey Funeral Home directing.

He was the proud father of four children: Joey Brooks, Jessica Brooks, Nick Brooks, and the late Jacob Brooks. His legacy lives on in his beloved grandchildren:
• From Joey: Sydney Dillon, Karsyn Hamm, Reese Brooks, and Austen-Kate Brooks
• From Jessica: Olivia Broxson, Madison Broxson, and Natalie Broxson
• From Nick: Trycen Brooks

He was also blessed to be a great-grandfather to Ryker Dillon, son of Sydney Dillon.

Bud is survived by his siblings: Betty Matouzzi, Mary Ellen Harrelson, Charlotte Myrick, Julie Salter, and Kenneth Brooks. He was preceded in death by his brother, Don Edward Brooks, and his parents, Delmas and Minnie.

Bud’s memory will live on in campfire stories, cast lines, and gobbler calls echoing through the trees. He was one of a kind—and he will be deeply missed.
