Carolyn (Deer) Owens

Mrs. Carolyn Deer Owens went to her heavenly home on Saturday, October 30, 2021.  She was 95 years old.  

Born on April 25, 1926 in Evergreen, Carolyn was the only child of Horace and Vivian Deer.  After a brief period in Birmingham, Carolyn moved back to Evergreen in elementary school, where she eventually met her husband, Ray Owens.  They were joined in marriage on June 20, 1947 at Evergreen Baptist Church, where they later became members.  Carolyn got her first job teaching seventh and eight grade in Moundville, Alabama and remained a teacher for 34 years until she retired in 1983. Carolyn and her husband were both teachers vocationally and active in their church and community in a number of ways.  As lifelong Alabama fans, they also loved traveling and were able to experience 49 states and 8 foreign countries.

Preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Donald Ray Owens Sr., and her daughter, Sandra Owens Ralls, Carolyn will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and church family.  

Living relatives include her son, Donald Ray "Don" Owens Jr. (Sharon) of Evergreen; grandchildren Gil Ralls (Amanda), Mandy Ralls Johnson (Ryan), Cass Ralls Pate (Michael), Donald Ray "Dray" Owens III (Skye), and Anna Owens Greene (Jeff);  fourteen great-grandchildren James Ralls, Addy Ralls, Hadyn Owens, Gracie Johnson, Aubrey Pittman, Ella Johnson, Cade Pittman, Lily Johnson, Owen Pate, Mary Charles Owens, Maddie Johnson, Brody Pate, Mallie Claire Owens, and McKinley Greene.

Funeral services will be held 11 am., Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at the Evergreen Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Cope-Keahey Funeral Home is entrusted with these arrangements.
