June 16, 1936 ~ January 19, 2018 (age 81) 81 Years Old

 

Retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer, Jimmy Paul Hamby of Evergreen, passed away Friday January 19, 2018 in Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. He was 81.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday January 24, 2018 at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Russ McDonald will officiate. Interment will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery with Cope-Keahey directing. Full military honors will be presented at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Appleton Assembly of God Church, 3115 Lowry Landing Rd., Brewton, AL 36426. Contributions will be designated for the Wild Game Supper Fund that raises funds for needy families in the community.

Survivors include his loving Wife of 50 years, Becky Hamby of Evergreen

Sons, James Walter Hamby and (Bruce Bullington) of Foley.

Paul Curtis (Mary Etta) Hamby of Evergreen

Daughter, Toni (Steve) Makin of Wellsboro PA

Brother, Johnny (Barbara) Hamby of Possum Kingdom, S.C.

Sisters, Doris Zimmerman of Augusta, GA

Mildred (Russell) Whitt of Belton, S.C.

Grandchildren, Ashley Nicole (Jonathan) Robinson, and Steven Keith Hamby

Great-Grandchildren, Hunter Wesley Pipkin,  Gage Robinson, Kyle Robinson.

Mr. Hamby retired from the United States Navy with numerous service metals and decorations. He served during the Vietnam War and completed tours in Japan, Guam and Cuba. After military retirement, he continued to travel for personal pleasure; he always loved to meet new people. He was described by friends and family as a wonderful conversationalist, having the ability to engage in meaningful conversation with all kinds of people, and was also a great listener. He never met a stranger. On March 7, 2018, he and his wife would be celebrating 50 years of marriage.  

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Daisy Hamby, sister Louise Hamby, Brother Robert Hamby.
