Selma Frances (Brewer) Wilson

Mrs. Selma Frances Brewer Wilson of Evergreen passed away Friday, August 4, 2017 in Evergreen.  She was 83.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home Directing. Mike Jones will officiate. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery with Cope-Keahey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home.
She is survived by her son, Michael Wilson (Rhonda), granddaughter, Katie Wilson, great grandchildren, Jayden and Stetson, step grandson, Torrey Pugh, daughter, Joy Wilson, son, Tim Wilson (Windy Hillman) and grandson, Jack Hillman-Wilson.

Mrs. Wilson was born November 10, 1933 in Marion County, Alabama to Wiley O. Brewer and Jenny Belle Shephard Brewer. She was one of 10 brothers and sisters who have now all passed on. Her youth was spent on a farm in rural North Alabama and she completed school at Hackleburg High School. She went on to college and received a teaching degree from Florence State Teacher’s College now known as the University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama. She then taught Home Economics in Warrior and Excel, Alabama. A move to Atmore, Alabama in 1960 to work for Alabama Power as their Home Demonstration Representative resulted in her meeting Dr. Carl Wilson a Veterinarian doing his preceptorship with a local clinic. Her landlady at the time suggested she go to the local diner at a certain time of day so they could be introduced! They married there on July 14, 1961! 
Once Dr. Wilson’s preceptorship was complete they moved to the small town of Evergreen in Conecuh County, Alabama where he set up his veterinary practice for large and small animals. She became his nurse, office manager, short wave communication specialist, homemaker and child wrangler to their three children until he sold his practice. He started a job with the United States Department of Agriculture becoming Associate State Veterinarian. 
Being a homemaker became her full-time remaining life job. Her Creole Chocolate Cake is still famous!!!
