Larry Osborn VanMeter

July 1, 1938 ~ March 16, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old

 

Larry Osborn VanMeter of Langston, Al. passed away on March 16, 2017. Larry joined the United States Marine Corp in 1960, and retired after 22 years of service, which included two tours in the Republic of Vietnam. After retiring from the Marine Corp, he  worked for 15 years with SCI Systems (now Sanmina) in Hunstville, Al. It was there that he met and married his wife, Anna.

He was preceded in death by his son Larry Wayne VanMeter and granddaughter, Carley Danielle Robinson. Larry and Anna together shared 4 children, their spouses, and 9 grandchildren. They are Karen Robinson (Tommy Glass) of Huntsville, Brandy VanMeter of Decatur, Brantley Watts (Anna) of Birmingham, Blaine Watts (Jennifer) of raleigh, NC., Nicole and Tyler Robinson, Truitt VanMeter, Whitt, Wynne and Wells Watts and Grant and Landon Watts. Larry has one sister, Connie Speece, of Shelbyville, IN.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m. at Cope-Keahey Chapel with graveside following at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Magnolia Cemetery.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2017 at the Scottsboro Funeral Home in Scottsboro Al. There will be a time of visitation from 10-12 with the service at noon. Rev. John Dees, pastor of CrossPointe Church will be officiating.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, that you make a donation to the church or charity of your choice in Larry's memory.
