King Edsel Williams

King Edsel Williams, 91, died at William F. Green State Veterans Home, Bay Minette, on November 5, 2015. A native of Oxford, Ala., and resident of Owassa, Ala., Mr. Williams was a retired engineer and a 1950 graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Mr. Williams served as chief engineer at Flxible Southern (Southern Coach Manufacturing Co.), a bus manufacturing firm, in Evergreen, Ala., for 25 years, from 1951 to 1976. He retired in 1989 as chief engineer at Quality Manufacturing, Inc., a fire truck manufacturer, in Talladega, Ala.

Mr. Williams was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church where he was a longtime deacon, Sunday School teacher, and served on the Building Committee and numerous other committees. He was a Mason. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Perry Darby Williams of Owassa; one son, King Edsel Williams Jr. of Auburn; one daughter, Susan (Sid) Chapman of Monroeville; two grandchildren, Lauren Claire Chapman Hadley of Tuscaloosa and Matthew King Chapman of Seattle Washington.

Preceding him in death were his parents Harvey Robert Williams and Audrey White Williams of Oxford; one sister; Juanita Williams Jobson, and three brothers, Clemance P. Williams, Claris Wallace Williams, and Harvey Robert Williams Jr.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home in Evergreen at 1:30 p.m. until time to depart for a 3:00 p.m. graveside service at Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Cleveland Brown officiating and Cope-Keahey Funeral Home directing.
